If you’re planning a trip to Makarska and want to make the most of your day, this guide will help. I’ve put together an itinerary with local attractions and food recommendations, all from a local’s perspective. It’s a full schedule, maybe a bit busy for some, but it’s designed so you can see as much of Makarska as possible in one day.
Think of this as an insider’s guide rather than a rigid checklist, designed to help you experience the best the city has to offer in a single day.

Morning: Start Your Day in Makarska
10:00 – Coffee and Old Town Walk
Begin your day in Makarska by heading to the city center and the harbor, where you’ll find a variety of charming coffee bars perfect for breakfast or brunch. Coffee culture is a big part of daily life in Makarska and throughout Croatia, so take this opportunity to savor a quality cup and ease into your morning.
Before you set out, make sure to pack everything you’ll need for the beach. While enjoying your coffee, feel free to take a relaxed stroll through the old town and perhaps pick up a souvenir or two—the aim is to start your day at a leisurely pace.
Midday: Lunch Time
13:00 – Lunch in Makarska
After your morning coffee and stroll, it might be tempting to head straight to the beach around noon. However, the midday sun in Makarska can be intense, with high temperatures and UV levels, making it less comfortable and even unsafe to be outside for long periods. Instead, consider having an early lunch to avoid the heat.
Makarska’s city center has a wide selection of excellent restaurants. One highly recommended option is Arta Larga by Gastro Diva, located on the charming Kalalarga street, where you’ll find high-quality cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere. There are plenty of other spots to suit every taste, so take your time and enjoy lunch in the heart of Makarska’s authentic old town.
14:00 – Scenic Walk to Beach
After lunch, take a leisurely walk toward some of Makarska’s best beach spots. Stroll along the harbor, pass through Peškera Park, and follow the main coastline. You’ll discover plenty of beaches along the way, but the farther west you go (toward Baška Voda), the fewer crowds you’ll encounter.
One excellent choice is Baze Beach, located below Hotel Aminess. While it’s a bit of a walk, the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful setting make it well worth the effort.
Afternoon: Beach Time
15:00 – Relax by the Sea
Now that you’ve found your perfect beach spot, it’s time to enjoy the main reason many people visit Makarska: swimming and relaxing on its beautiful shores. I recommend arriving around 3 p.m., when the heat has eased, and it’s more comfortable to be by the sea.
Stay at the beach for as long as you like, whether you prefer sunbathing, swimming, or trying out activities like jet skiing or the aqua parks. Of course, if you want to dedicate your entire day to the beach, you can head here earlier in the morning. However, you may want to balance between the beach and exploring Makarska’s vibrant town life.
Evening: Sunset, Dinner, and a Relaxed End to the Day
19:00 – Sunset by the Promenade
After your time at the beach, start making your way back to Makarska’s charming old center in search of a dinner spot. As you return, consider taking a detour to Saint Peter’s Peninsula, a stunning location to watch the sunset if you have time. Whether you explore the peninsula or simply stroll along the promenade, savor the golden hour before heading to dinner in the city center.
20:00 – Dinner and Evening Stroll
Now it’s time for dinner. Makarska has plenty of great places to eat, so you can choose what suits your mood. If you want to try something different, check out Tempera Street Food and Bar. If you’re in the mood for Italian food, Maká is a good choice. There are lots of other options as well, so just pick what looks appealing to you.
After dinner, take another walk through Makarska. There’s often something happening in the evenings; sometimes you’ll find live music or a concert at Kačić Square. By the end of the night, you’ll probably feel tired, but hopefully happy with the beautiful sights you experienced.
