Finding a good spot in the shade can be tricky, and the water in popular areas tends to get less clear when they’re packed with visitors.

That’s why, as a local, I always recommend heading to the beaches west of Makarska, towards Baška Voda. The farther west you go, the fewer crowds you’ll find, and the more likely you are to get a peaceful spot to yourself. If possible, plan your visit for June or September instead of the peak months of July and August. You’ll find fewer crowds and a more relaxed atmosphere during these peak seasons.

Parking and Traffic

Because many people visit Makarska during the summer, parking and traffic can be challenging both day and night. If you’re booking an apartment or hotel, make sure it includes a parking spot, especially if you’re bringing a car or plan to rent one.

There’s also a solid paid parking lot next to the police station, an affordable option conveniently close to the city center.

Hot Temperatures in Summer

During the peak summer months, Makarska can get extremely hot, with midday temperatures often ranging from 30 to 38 degrees Celsius. It’s generally not recommended to be out in the sun during this time, as the heat can be especially challenging for older people and those with sensitive skin.

The best time to visit the beach is usually after 3 p.m., when the temperatures start to drop. Be sure to use sun protection whenever you’re outside.

Conclusion: Is Makarska a Good Place To Stay?

Makarska is definitely a good place to stay.
